DTU is ranked as one of the foremost technical universities in Europe and takes part in alliances and strategic partnerships with international universities, including Eurotech. With its 24 departments and centres, DTU covers a wide range of research areas and technologies relevant to the challenges of cybersecurity. DTU’s departments conduct and manage research, lab facilities, education, training, innovation, and scientific advice in the general area of cybersecurity. Sections with cybersecurity research include the departments of Compute, Diplom, Electrical Engineering, Management Engineering, Photonic Engineering (Fotonik), Physics and Space, as well as interest from other departments such as Energy. A number of research groupcover general research in cybersecurity and specialized research areas such as socio-technical systems, trust management, privacy, cryptography and formal methods.

DTU contributes to research on proactive security, focusing on early stages of secure software development and secure-by-design principles, through the application and extension of formal methods for security. DTU also contributes to security intelligence research with a focus on intruder detection systems and log mining techniques. DTU also provides contributions to work related to identity management, cryptograpy and cryptanalysis, IoT, and Fog/Edge computing. DTU is helping integrate software results in the medical exchange demonstration use case. DTU also leads on spreading of excellence to help promoting research results, technologies and best practices in cybersecurity. DTU also facilitates in the identification of research challenges to be addressed in the context of the project and beyond (in future larger programmes). DTU provides a review of existing cybersecurity MSc programmes in Europe, with a focus on Central Europe (DK, NL, DE, PL), and is responsible for the process for continuing education courses.
