The Network, Information and Computer Security (NICS) Lab, founded in 1994, is part of the Software Engineering Research Group (GISUM) at UMA, which is one of the official Groups of Excellence of the Andalusian Regional Government. Scientific and technical cooperation agreements are in place for the exchange of researchers in the US with NIST (Information Technology Laboratory, Computer Security Division), and Singapore with I2R (Cryptography & Security Department). Members have over 400 publications, including more than 100 accepted by ISI-ranked journals and are actively involved in more than 50 research projects in information security, networks and distributed systems security and applied cryptography. NICS members actively participate in international committees and initiatives such as ECSO, the Spanish Network of Excellence on Cybersecurity RENIC, the Security and Trust Management Working Group of ERCIM or different WGs of IFIP, as well as in the organization of international conferences and workshops. Members of the group have been especially active in technology transfer to major multinational companies, as well as to public entities in Spain.

UMA participates in most of CyberSec4Europe’s work activities. In particular, it contributes actively in the secure design of the common research framework and the road-mapping, especially in the aspects related to industrial environments.
