On 9 December 2020, the European Council voted to locate the EU’s future cybersecurity research hub in Bucharest. The European Cybersecurity Industrial, Technology and Research Competence Centre, as it is formally known, is a key part of the planned European Cybersecurity Competence Network and Centre, which aims to help the EU continue to build the capacity necessary to secure the Digital Single Market. The Competence Centre will seek to achieve its overall mission by setting up and helping to coordinate the National Coordination Centres Network and the Cybersecurity Competence Community; and by implementing cybersecurity-related financial support from the Horizon Europe and Digital Europe programmes. This evening’s panel discussion explored both how Europe proposes to achieve its cybersecurity objectives over the coming two to three years as well as the role of the industrial and academic cybersecurity community across Romania.
